About

What it is

Unbound by default is a curated directory of websites worth studying. Each entry is a short recording of the live site, with its fonts, color palette, the tech it is built with, and the people who made it. Browse them by industry, style, or font in the directory.

How each entry is made

A script opens the site in a real browser at 1920×1080 and records about 25 seconds of it: it waits out the preloader, scrolls the page, and visits a second page when there is one. The recording keeps the site's own frame rate, so WebGL and scroll animations play as they do for a visitor.

The details come from the live page, not from guesses: the fonts it actually renders, the colors weighted by how much of the screen they cover, the frameworks that leave a trace in its code, and the credits it gives in its footer.

How sites get in

Anyone can submit a website. Every entry is reviewed by hand before it is published: the recording, the title, the industry and styles, and every credit. Not every submission is accepted.

Project idea

The idea for this project started out as a personal curated directory of website inspiration.

We then decided to make this a public directory where people could submit their amazing websites and make them available to everyone.
